PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Paced by an opening-round three-under par 69 from senior
Evan Katz on Sunday, the No. 25 Duke men's golf team finds itself in third place at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State at the Camp Creek GC.
Katz's strong first round was highlighted by four birdies and just one bogey on the 7,159-yard Camp Creek Course. He sits tied for sixth and just three back of the first-round leader, Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson.
At 12-under par as a team, the Tigers lead the 10-team field comprised entirely of ACC programs, followed closely by No. 17 Wake Forest (-6), the Blue Devils (-5), Florida State (-3) and North Carolina (E) in the top five.
The 54-hole tournament continues with the second round Monday and final round on Tuesday.
Making his Duke debut, freshman
Ian Siebers couldn't have scripted a better start to his collegiate career. After opening with a par, Siebers birdied the par-4 second and rolled in an eagle on the par-5 third to go three-under through three. He turned at three-under par and signed for a one-under 71 after a two-over 38 on the back.
Siebers and senior
Adrien Pendaries are each tied for 13th at one-under par as Pendaries closed with three birdies over his final seven holes to erase his only two blemishes of the round -- consecutive bogeys on the ninth and 10th.
Duke boasts four Blue Devils in top 20 through 18 holes with freshman
Jimmy Zheng – also making his collegiate debut – posting an even-par 72 to sit tied for 18th. Zheng led the squad with five birdies on the day, including three over the final seven holes.
Graduate student
Steven DiLisio is tied for 52nd at six-over, while senior
Qi wen Wong is tied for 56th at seven-over.
Monday's second round begins at 10 a.m. ET with live scoring from Golfstat and in-round coverage on Duke's Twitter and Instagram accounts, @DukeMGOLF.
