DURHAM, N.C. – Following the ACC's official announcement of fall Olympic sports schedules on Friday, Duke cross country interim head coach
Rhonda Riley has released the Blue Devils' 2020 slate that features three regular season meets as part of a six-team, intra-conference series.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to compete this fall," Riley said. "The squads have put in a lot of quality training since March and are ready to test themselves in a couple of weeks. We are fortunate to have five ACC schools all within driving distance that will provide a great race day experience with plenty of competition. I am looking forward to seeing what both the men's and women's team can accomplish this season."
Duke will open its season on Friday, Sept. 25, when Virginia Tech hosts the Blue Devils and NC State in Blacksburg, Va. The women are slated to begin their race at 5:15 p.m., before the men start at 6 p.m.
The Blue Devils will then stay local on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when each of the six schools (Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Virginia and Virginia Tech) run at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., pending the end of the stay-at-home order in North Carolina. Duke will wrap up its regular season when it travels to Earlysville, Va., for a meet with Virginia and Virginia Tech on Friday, Oct. 16.
The ACC Championships are planned for Friday, Oct. 30 at WakeMed Soccer Park and will feature all 15 men's and women's teams.
Each competition within the intra-conference series will be contested in accordance with the minimum COVID-19 medical standards set forth by the ACC. Chip timing will be required in competition, giving student-athletes the ability to move directly through the finish chute without restriction.
Race distances at each competition will be the decision of the host school with input from visiting teams. Start times for each race will be at the direction of the host school with consultation of the institution's medical staff. The maximum allowable race size will be 50 runners per gender, and each team may travel no more than 16 student-athletes per gender, plus coaches and essential staff.
