Blue Devils Close Out First Week of Training
The Duke men's soccer team completed its first week of training Friday after opening practice Monday, August 10. Led by head coach
John Kerr, the excitement was there from day one as the Blue Devils held spirited morning and evening practices.
"Under the circumstances it's been a delight [having everyone back]," said Kerr. "We've been waiting for this moment for four or five months now. I'm really proud of how well the boys have listened to the directives and the protocols put in place. We're all very appreciate to be out playing together again."
The Blue Devils welcome a talented group of 10 freshmen to the team along with 17 returning players. Duke's rookie class is ranked third by Top Drawer Soccer and is headlined by the No. 15 player
Peter Stroud, who comes to Duke after playing in the West Ham United system.
Overall, three of the freshmen are among the top 50 in Top Drawer's player rankings – Stroud (15),
JT Harms (47) and
Nick Pariano (48).
"We have a lot of enthusiasm and we have a nice blend of experienced players coming back with a new group coming in that is very talented and very eager to impress" Kerr said. "They've been listening and learning each and every session. They've worked their tails off from the start and been very disciplined and we're making strides even though it's only been four days."
