DURHAM, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently checked in with Duke volleyball sophomore
Lily Cooper to look back at the 2019 season with the Blue Devils.
Where are you now?
"I am with my family in Clayton, N.C. It's a town about thirty minutes southeast of Raleigh."
What are you doing to stay active?
"Our strength coach,
Megan Rottler, has done an amazing job preparing challenging at-home workouts for us for this summer. While gyms in my area are still closed, I have been making the most of modified lifts, weighted backpacks, logs, and even a bucket of sand! I'm pleased to say I feel like I am making just as much progress in my strength as if I had been back with all of our equipment. This season has taught me that anyone can work out anywhere. Truly, the biggest limit is in our minds."
What was your favorite memory from this season?
"Fighting beside teammates who love each other every day in practice."
What do you miss most about being at Duke?
"The food. Seriously, I think about the campus food nearly every day. That, and in-person interaction with people my own age. As someone without siblings, it's been quite a while, and I do miss it."
The 6-5 middle blocker saw action in all of Duke's 31 matches this season.
Cooper knocked down 147 kills during the season to rank fifth on the team to hit .235. She also led the team in blocks with 125 total blocks and 12 solo blocks for 1.29 blocks/set.
Cooper saw 15 contests with five or more kills including a season-high 11 in Duke's five-set victory over No. 14 Oregon. She added 11 kills and just two errors to hit .474 for the match. She also added nine blocks in three matches.
