DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's track & field team is excited to announce four additions to the program that will compete in field events in the 2020-21 season.
"Over the last decade, Duke track & field has established consistent success in the javelin and the decathlon," Associate Head Coach
Shawn Wilbourn said. "With the addition of Liam, Scott, Alex and Gage, the tradition will continue. I'm excited to watch these young men continue to develop and I'm confident that they will contribute to our men's program."
The group of signees includes
Liam Kahn, a graduate-transfer from Butler University who hails from Whitefish Bay, Wis. Kahn's lone season with the Bulldogs track & field program came as a junior, when he earned a silver medal in the javelin at the 2019 Big East Outdoor Championships, recording a personal-best throw of 59.87 meters (196-5 feet).
The group of newcomers will also feature three high school recruits, led off by
Scott Campbell, who will join Kahn in the javelin. Campbell attends and competed for Hazleton Area High School in Hazleton, Pa., where he held a PR distance of 60.71 meters (199-2 feet). A multi-sport athlete, Campbell was also a member of the Hazleton Area basketball team.
Alex Kilpatrick joins the Blue Devils from South Walton High School in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Kilpatrick set a decathlon PR of 6,120 points at the Arcadia Invitational during the 2018 outdoor season. He earned All-American status at the 2019 New Balance Indoor Nationals, where his 3,345-point total in the pentathlon placed him sixth in the event. He went on to claim All-American honors at the 2019 AAU Nationals as well.
Rounding out the class is
Gage Knight, a Crystal Beach, Fla., native who competed for Palm Harbor University High School. Knight will also take part in the decathlon, an event where he holds a PR point-total of 6,533. Knight is a two-time AAU All-American in the decathlon, and he earned All-American honors as a decathlete at the 2019 New Balance Outdoor Nationals and 2019 Arcadia Invite.
