DURHAM, N.C. – With the conclusion of the 2020 ACC Fencing Championships, the Duke fencing team will turn its attention to the NCAA postseason and are set to host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday, March 7 at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham.
A fencer's performance at regionals will have a direct impact on their chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships, as both their regular season resumé and placing at the regional meet will be considered when the field is selected next week.

FLASHBACK TO 2019
- At last year's regional meet, 11 Blue Devils placed in the top 10 of their respective weapons.
- Eoin Gronningsater and Zoe Superville reached the podium in men's and women's foil. Gronningsater logged a 9-2 ledger and finished the afternoon with 18 overall victories to take first place while Superville recorded eight wins in the final round of pool play and concluded competition with 14 dubs to place second.
- Outside of the podium finishers, seven Blue Devils who placed in the top 10 return this year: Brycen Rushing (sixth – foil), Alex Gorman (sixth – saber), Julia Gianneschi (sixth – foil), Maria Papadopoulos (sixth – epee), Huda Aldadah (seventh – epee), Lindsay Sapienza (seventh – saber) and Ping Ping Kitsiriboon (eighth – saber).
LAST TIME OUT
- The 2020 ACC Fencing Championships were highlighted by five Blue Devils capturing medals in their respective weapons.
- Aldadah (silver), Danny Campbell III (bronze), Gorman (silver), Rushing (silver) and Bowen Wang (silver) brought hardware back to Bull City from their individual performances.
- Aldadah and Gorman became just the fourth and fifth Blue Devil women to garner All-ACC accolades while Rushing and Wang were honorees on the men's side by placing in the top two.
- As a team, the 10th-ranked men placed second overall while the women finished third.
- The men started off with a 15-12 victory over North Carolina before a 19-8 rout of Boston College. Duke fell to No. 5 Notre Dame 16-11 in the final round to take second.
- On the women's side, the Blue Devils fell to North Carolina (15-12) in the opening round before defeating Boston College (17-10). In the final round, the Blue Devil women fell 18-9 to eventual ACC Champion No. 3 Notre Dame.
SUPERB SABERISTS
- The women's saber team has a 17-8 overall record this season and is led by Gorman with 41 victories.
- On the men's side, Agoston Walter owns 45 wins as the men's team is 14-11 overall heading into Saturday.
FIERCE FOILISTS
- The men's foil squad leads the entire team with an impressive 21-4 season ledger as Gronningsater and Finn Hossfeld have 42 and 38 wins, respectively.
- For the women's team who have a 15-10 record, Gianneschi has collected 34 victories.
EXCEPTIONAL EPEEISTS
- Campbell III and Kevin Chao lead the men's epee team with 42 and 38 wins, respectively.
- 2019 NCAA Fencing Championship qualifiers Aldadah and Papadopoulos spearhead the women's contingent with 39 and 34 victories, respectively.
FENCE FOR THE FIGHT CAMPAIGN
- With the regular season complete, the Duke fencing team is continuing to raise money with the Fence for the Fight campaign in partnership with the Duke Cancer Institute.
- With over 1,000 individual wins so far in combination with pledging, the Fence for the Fight campaign has totaled $27,756.85.
- There is still time to make a pledge in the fight against breast cancer. You can pledge either $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, $1.00, $1.75 or $2.50 for every win a team member gets over the year. You can also choose your own pledge amount or make a one-time donation of any amount. The largest donor will receive a Duke fencing prize package in honor of their support. All donors will receive an autographed picture of this year's team.
