GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following the conclusion of the regular season Sunday, the ACC office announced the All-ACC teams Monday, after a vote by the Blue Ribbon Panel and the league head coaches. Duke University graduate
Haley Gorecki headlined the honors earning All-ACC First Team accolades by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and ACC head coaches, while also being tabbed to the All-ACC Defensive Team by the coaches.
Senior
Leaonna Odom was voted to the All-ACC Second Team for the first time in her career.
Along with Gorecki on the Blue Ribbon Panel All-ACC First Team was Kiah Gillespie (Florida State), Nicki Ekhomu (Florida State), Dana Evans (Louisville), Kylee Shook (Louisville), Jazmine Jones (Louisville), Elissa Cunane (NC State), Janelle Bailey (North Carolina), Kiara Lewis (Syracuse) and Jocelyn Willoughby (Virginia).
For the second straight season, Gorecki has been one of the best all-around players nationally averaging 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals. A native of Palatine, Ill., Gorecki owns 11 games with 20 or more points and six double-doubles, which ranks second and tied for ninth, respectively, in the ACC. She is the only player in power five conferences averaging over 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds. 4.2 assists and 2.0 steals.
"We are proud of the season that Haley has enjoyed," said Duke head coach
Joanne P. McCallie. "Given her incredible stats she has turned in and her ability to lead a team from 10th place to third in the ACC is pretty remarkable. She faced double-teams each and every game and was the key player opponents scouted leading into contests. Haley has continued to fill the stat sheet and showed she is one of the best players nationally. I am so proud and excited as it is an honor well-deserved for Haley."
In the ACC stats, Gorecki ranks second in scoring, 18th in rebounding, 16th in field goal percentage (39.9), seventh in assists, third in free throw percentage (84.9), second in steals, eighth in three-point field goals made (1.97) and third in minutes played (36.3).
Along with being one of the best offensive players in the nation, Gorecki has paced Duke's outstanding defense as she ranked second in the league with 2.1 steals per game. The Blue Devils have been one of the league leaders in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, steals and blocked shots all season long.
Gorecki earned All-ACC Defensive Team with Jazmine Jones (Louisville), Kylee Shook (Louisville), Mykea Gray (Miami) and Taja Cole (Virginia Tech).
Odom, who hails from Lompoc, Calif., has averaged 14.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.6 assists, while starting 25-of-27 games played. In the ACC stats, she ranks 17th in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage (54.3). Her four double-doubles ranks tied for 16th. Odom also added three games of 20 or more points versus ACC foes.
"I am excited for Neah as she has had a great senior year and the honor is well-deserved," commented McCallie. "We are looking for her to continue to grow and the recognition is timely and appropriate as she prepares for the stretch run of her collegiate career."
On the Blue Ribbon Panel All-ACC Second Team along with Odom was Emmy Guy (Boston College), Taylor Soule (Boston College), Aisha Sheppard (Virginia Tech) and Ivana Raca (Wake Forest).
Both Gorecki and Odom helped ignite Duke on a tremendous finish in ACC play. After opening the season 1-3 in league action, the Blue Devils won 11 out of their final 14 contests to finish 12-6 in ACC play and earned the No. 3 overall seed.
Gorecki and Odom also received first and second team All-ACC honors, respectively, by a vote of the league head coaches.
Duke (18-11) will open the ACC Tournament Friday, March 6 at 8 p.m., against either Boston College, Miami or Clemson. The contest will be aired live on RSN-TV and played at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
