DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women's basketball graduate
Haley Gorecki has been selected one of five finalists for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, as announced Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Â
Named after the first player, male or female, named to an All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the annual award in its third year recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
Along with Gorecki, among the five were Aari McDonald (Arizona), Kathleen Doyle (Iowa), Dana Evans (Louisville) and Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M).
"These five athletes are some of the most skillful and talented players we have seen in the women's game to date," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "As we watch them complete their seasons, we are grateful to have Annie Meyers' expertise and insights to guide us in selecting a winner."
Gorecki, a native of Palatine, Ill., is the only student-athlete in power five conferences averaging over 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals. She has collected seven double-doubles and 12 contests with 20 or more points for the Blue Devils. On the year, Gorecki is averaging 18.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals. Â

"I have enjoyed watching this year's finalists excel throughout the season," said Ann Meyers Drysdale, Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 1993. "It's always a difficult task to select just one young woman as our award recipient, but I look forward to meeting the winner in Los Angeles and honoring her on stage at The College Basketball Awards."

Â
Since February, Gorecki has stepped up her game even more averaging 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.8 steals and 2.2 three-pointers made per game. The 2020 All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team selection has notched six games with 20 or more points and three double-doubles during that stretch. Â
