DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior right-hander
Bryce Jarvis received multiple accolades following his historic performance last Friday in the series opener against Cornell. Jarvis earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors, while being tabbed as a National Player of the Week by
Collegiate Baseball and
D1Baseball after notching the program's first-ever perfect game.
Jarvis retired all 27 batters he faced on the afternoon, registering a career-high 15 strikeouts, 10 groundouts and two fly outs in his perfect outing. The Franklin, Tenn., native punched out at least one batter in eight of his nine frames, while managing to work in just one three-ball count across 94 pitches the entire afternoon.
The performance marked just the 31
st perfect game in NCAA Division I history, and first since Jake Kuchmaner's perfect outing on March 17, 2019. The outing also marked the seventh no-hitter in Duke history, and first since the Blue Devil's combined no-hit effort over Penn State last season on March 1, 2019
Entering the spring, Jarvis was tabbed the No. 49 junior on
Perfect Game's list Top 100 juniors entering the 2020 season. The junior right-hander also earned Preseason All-America honors from both
D1Baseball and the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
