DURHAM, N.C. – Following a 4-0 weekend hosting the Big 10/ACC Challenge, Duke softball is gearing up for a midweek matchup with Campbell on Wednesday, Feb. 19. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at the Duke Softball Stadium.

Marissa Young and her team are off to their best start in program history with an 8-1 record, including a five-game win streak. The Blue Devils received three votes in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, marking the first time the program has been recognized by a major poll.

HISTORY WITH THE CAMELS
This will be just the third meeting between the two schools as the teams last met on Feb. 13, 2019 in Buies Creek, N.C. where the Blue Devils won, 9-2. In the victory,
Kristina Foreman went 3-for-4 with a triple and home run while
Jameson Kavel went 2-for-3 with a double.
Brianna Butler garnered the win in the circle, pitching seven complete innings in which she earned three strikeouts. Campbell was held to only four hits as Cassie Wancheck notched two in the loss.
The Camels won the first meeting, edging the Blue Devils (3-2) in Durham on May 6 during Duke's inaugural season.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
The Camels enter Wednesday's contest with a 5-5 record after going 4-0 in their own Campbell Invitational. Over the weekend, Campbell picked up wins over Bucknell, Saint Francis, Mount St. Mary's and Howard. Campbell opened its 2020 campaign at Coastal Carolina's Kickin' Chicken Classic where they fell to East Carolina (12-0), Iowa (5-2), Virginia Tech (11-3) and East Carolina (4-1) before defeating the host team (4-3).
Destani England leads the offense for the Camels, batting .424 on the season with 14 hits, while Claudia Ware and Kynadi Tipler have each tallied 10. Tipler leads the team with 11 RBI and a .655 slugging percentage. Georgeanna Barefoot and Kayla Howald have split majority innings in the circle with 31 and 25.2 innings pitched, respectively. Barefoot has recorded two shutouts while racking up 35 strikeouts to start her rookie season.
RECAPPING THE WEEKEND
Sweeping this year's Big 10/ACC Challenge at home, Duke outscored its opponents 42-4 in the four games while showing dominance in the circle with a 1.17 combined earned run average. The Blue Devils had three players hit above .500 with at least five at-bats in
Rachel Crabtree (.556),
Gisele Tapia (.583) and
Kamryn Jackson (.625). Duke utilized 14 players in the lineup this week as 13 scored at least one run and 11 garnered at least one hit.
All five of Duke's pitchers were featured in the circle and were led by
Peyton St. George who went 2-0 through 10.2 innings while picking up 20 strikeouts.
Shelby Walters had two strong appearances, earning a win and a 0.78 ERA through 9 innings in which she tallied eight K's. Sophomores
Angie Biele and
Kylie Coffelt both made their collegiate debuts in the circle, entering in relief during Saturday night's run-rule victory over Rutgers.
BREAKING RECORDS
The Blue Devils set numerous program records over the weekend, beginning with the most strikeouts in a single game as juniors Butler and St. George combined for 13 against Indiana on Friday - previous record was 12 against NC State on April 20, 2019. During Saturday's game versus Rutgers, Duke broke multiple team records: most hits (18), doubles (6), runs scored (22), runs batted in (21) and runs in a single inning (10). Jackson also broke the record for most RBI in a game with seven.
ON DECK
The Blue Devils will get on a plane Thursday evening and travel to Austin for the Texas Invitational, Feb. 21-22. At the invitational, Duke will face Lipscomb, Weber State, North Dakota State and No. 4 Texas. All games will be available to watch on the Longhorn Network.
