CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving wrapped up a record-breaking day at the UNC Janis Hape Dowd Invitational at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill on Friday evening.

The Blue Devils made eight appearances in this evening's 'A' Finals while 10 times placed in the top-10 charts of Duke history.

Duke opened the evening finals in the 200 medley relay. In the relay, the quartet of freshman
David Chang, junior
Cole Reznick, sophomore
Charlie Gingrich and freshman
Zach McIntyre touched the wall in 1:26.89 to place fifth in the event and 10th all-time at Duke.

Senior
Quinn Scannell and sophomore
Olivia Tighe turned heads in the 200 freestyle as Scannell won and Tighe placed fourth in the top flight. Both Blue Devils swam career-best times and put themselves in the top 10 in program history as Scannell improved her fourth-place time and Tighe moved to ninth all-time. In addition, junior
Shae Nicolaisen also swam a career-best 1:51.28 in the 'B' Final.

On the men's side, junior
David Hallaron moved to sixth all-time at Duke in the 200 freestyle after swimming a career-best 1:36.72 in the 'A' Final to place sixth in the event. Junior
Matthew Whelan, McIntyre and sophomore
Matthew Knox also represented Duke in the 'B' Final, placing second, third and seventh, respectively.

Three Blue Devils appeared in the 'A' Final of the women's 400 individual medley — the most in a single event on the night. Freshmen
Catherine Purnell (4:14.37) and
Ashley Chompre (4:21.63) swam career-best times in the morning to reach the finals before placing fourth and eighth. Purnell's time was the sixth-fastest time in Duke history in the event. Junior
Cabell Whitlow also competed in the 'A' Final and touched the wall in 4:17.78 in the finals to place fifth.

Junior
Everett Werner led the men in the 400 IM, winning the 'B' Final with a time of 3:52.86. He was followed by sophomores
Nick Viers (3:56.94) and
Brendan Driscoll (4:02.42) who both recorded career bests as Viers' time vaulted him into the all-time charts at 10th. Reznick was exhibition in the event but swam the third-fastest time of the day in the preliminaries and the second-fastest time in program history, touching in 3:49.36.

In the 100 breaststroke, sophomore
Kayle Park reached the 'A' Finals for the Blue Devils while freshmen
Sarah Foley and
Catherine Belyakov and graduate studentÂ
Mia Bullock represented Duke in the 'B' tier. Foley took the top spot of the 'B' Final and moved to second all-time at Duke in the event after swimming a career-best 1:01.06. Bullock etched her name in the Duke history books with 1:01.86 in the event, moving to eighth all-time at Duke.

Junior
Colson Zucker competed in the 'A' Final for Duke in the 100 breaststroke after Reznick won the 'B' Final with a time of 54.07. Reznick's mark was just .01 seconds slower than his career-best which sits 10th all-time at Duke.

Sophomore
Emma Shuppert earned a spot in the 'A' Final of the 100 backstroke after clocking a 53.06 in the morning preliminaries before placing sixth in the evening. Junior
Shayna Hollander and freshman
Emily Lenihan placed second and fourth in the 'B' Final with times of 53.74 and 54.18, respectively. Lenihan's time was a career best and moved her to seventh in the all-time charts.

Duke closed out the evening in the men's 100 backstroke as Chang recorded a career-best time of 48.71 in the event to placed 12th overall, moving to seventh in Duke history.

The Blue Devils return to Koury Natatorium tomorrow to take on the final day of the Janis Hape Dowd Invitational. Racing begins at 10 a.m. and will include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay.
