DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team holds its ranking of No. 14 nationally in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll, which was released Wednesday.
Duke continued its powerful start to its 2020 undefeated season with a 3-0 sweep on the road against Virginia (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) Friday evening in Charlottesville, Va.
Boasted by a season-high .319 team hitting percentage, senior
Payton Schwantz and sophomore
Gracie Johnson combined for 25 kills on just four total errors as Schwantz hit a whopping .440 percent to Johnson's .417 for the match. Junior
Lily Cooper also had a solid showing this evening with six kills and no errors to hit .462 percent.
Schwantz recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs to go along with three aces and three blocks.
Duke is ranked first in the nation in opponent hitting percentage (.105) and third in blocks per set (2.92).
In the 2020 COVID-19 impacted season, approximately 50 teams are competing.
The undefeated Blue Devils will open another weekend of ACC competition Friday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra against North Carolina in Chapel Hill before a 5:30 p.m. ACC Network start on Sunday.
