DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team closed out its 2020 fall slate Friday evening with a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) over Virginia in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Devils elevate to 6-2 overall and in conference action as the Cavaliers dip to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in ACC play.
"We're excited to get the win and really excited to get it in three [sets]," head coach
Jolene Nagel said. "I'm really excited because it was our senior night tonight not knowing what we are going to have in the spring. It was fun to be able to do it here in Cameron [Indoor Stadium]. I know their parents were'ny able to be here but having the Zoom for them to see was special."
Boasted by two with double-digit kills, the Blue Devils hit a whopping .267 percent for the match as
Gracie Johnson and
Ade Owokoniran added 10 kills each. Johnson was flawless with zero errors to hit .476 percent while senior
Payton Schwantz added five kills and no errors for a .312 percentage. Graduate student
Franky Harrison added four kills and just one error as junior
Lily Cooper did the same.

Sydney Yap's 11. Defensively, Schwantz and libero
Mackenzie Cole picked up 13 and 12 digs, respectively, while the team racked up 9.0 total team blocks. Freshman
Georgia Stavrinides notched two solo blocks while Cooper and Schwantz each recorded one, marking Schwantz's first solo block of her career.
Additionally, Cole was phenomenal with her serve, recording six service aces.
The Blue Devils got off to a quick 11-2 lead in the first set as Cole registered three aces in the first 10 points while Owokoniran and Harrison combined for nine kills with just two errors.
In the second frame, Duke limited Virginia to just a .049 clip as Johnson hit .556 percent. Cooper and Stavrinides saw two solo blocks in the middle.
The third and final set featured eight tied scores and four lead changes as Duke was able to pull out their sixth victory of the season. Both teams had good hitting percentages in the frame as Duke hit .303 to Virginia's .297. Yap dished her 11th dime of the match to set up Johnson's 10th kill to help close out the set.
The Cavaliers were led by Grace Turner with 11 kills while libero Alexandra Spencer racked up 20 digs.
