DURHAM, N.C. – Following an impressive sophomore season in the backend of the bullpen, Duke right-hander
Thomas Girard has been named to the
D1Baseball Preseason All-America Third Team as announced by the publication earlier this week.
Girard becomes the second Blue Devil to earn preseason All-America honors, joining classmate
Bryce Jarvis, who was named to the Preseason All-America Second Team on Tuesday afternoon by
D1Baseball.
As a sophomore in 2019, Girard led the team in appearances with 28 on the campaign. The Blue Devil closer went a perfect nine-for-nine in save opportunities to lead the team, which tied for third in the ACC. His nine saves tied him for sixth all-time in program history for most saves in a single season. Additionally, the Simsbury, Conn., native enters the season sitting tied for 11
th in Duke history for most career saves.
Girard and the 11
th-ranked Blue Devils begin the new campaign Feb. 14-16 with a three-game series at home against Army West Point.
