DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke wrestling team travels to Boone, N.C., on Thursday for an out-of-conference dual with Appalachian State.
Â
The Blue Devils and Mountaineers are set to meet on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Varsity Gym.
Â
HOW TO FOLLOW THE ACTION
Thursday's match will have both live stats and live video available for fans to watch. App Vision will stream the event, while TrackWrestling will provide live stats.
Â
TOP DUAL SCORERS
In Duke's nine duals,
Mason Eaglin (174) leads the way with 17 of the Blue Devils' 24 points so far on the season. Junior
Harrison Campbell (133) and rookie
Wade Unger (149) have both chipped in with four and three points, respectively, to close out Duke's scoring.
Â
YOUTHFUL ROSTER
Thirteen of Duke's 17 wrestlers on its 2019-20 roster are a redshirt sophomore or younger. Of those 13, nine are in their first year with the program.
Â
Duke lost seven of its nine available starters last season due to graduation or redshirt.
Â
Of those seven were four brothers, two sets of twins in the Finesilver family. Josh andÂ
Matt Finesilver are both redshirting for the 2019-20 campaign, while the Blue Devils lost the other half of the Finesilver duo (Mitch and Zach) to graduation. The four brothers and now redshirt sophomore Ben Anderson, all qualified for the NCAA Tournament just a season ago.
Â
EAGLINS STEPS INTO LIMELIGHT
Despite this being his first full year in the Duke Blue and White,
Mason Eaglin has quickly become Duke's leader on the mat.
Â
Eaglin has compiled an overall record of 16-6, including an impressive 11-2 mark during tournament bouts.
Â
He is also the only Duke wrestler to take down a ranked opponent this season, having done so in back-to-back matches on Nov. 24 and most recently last Friday at Fresno State.
Â
The Port Orchard, Wash., native dropped No. 10 Dean Sherry of Rider before defeating No. 29 Neal Richards of VMI to go on to take the title at the Keystone Classic. Then last weekend, Eaglin defeated No. 16 Jackson Hemauer of Fresno State to shift to 3-1 against ranked foes.
Â
Eaglin sits with a 5-4 mark in dual action, having recorded 17 of Duke's 24 points so far this season.
Â
CAREER WINS
Mason Eaglin leads the team with 21 career wins. The redshirt freshman holds an overall record of 21-10, including a 16-6 mark in tournament play.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Ben Anderson follows Eaglin closely with 20 career wins to his name, including a pin of No. 32 Alexander Klucker of Lock Haven during last year's NCAA Championships.
Â
This season Anderson has struggled to stay healthy, dropping three bouts by way of a medical forfeit.
