DURHAM, N.C.—The preseason honors have started to roll in for Duke men's soccer senior Daniele Proch as he was named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List as announced by the organization Thursday. Proch is one of 36 players recognized.
Duke is one of five ACC programs to have a player on the list with Louisville, NC State, North Carolina and Wake Forest joining the Blue Devils. Proch is one of six 2018 Hermann Trophy Semifinalists named and one of 12 forwards selected.
Proch had a breakout season as Duke's leading scorer with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points en route to leading the Blue Devils to an 11-7-2 overall record and the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship.
In only his second season as a Blue Devil, Proch was named to the All-America second team, the highest honor for a Blue Devil since Andrew Wenger earned to the first team in 2011. Ranking third in the league in goals and fifth in points, the talented striker garnered All-ACC first team recognition, Duke's first such honoree since 2015.
Proch, a native of Italy, got off to a hot start in 2018 with five goals in his first three games, matching his total from 20 games in his first season as a Blue Devil.
He continued to score, tallying a goal in six of seven games in the middle of the season. Possessing great instincts on the field overall, he also dished out both assists in Duke's 2-0 road win over Virginia Tech. Overall, he totaled five game-winning goals, tied for the most in the league.
For his career at Duke, Proch has played in 40 games with 37 starting assignments. He owns 16 goals and 38 points in those contests.
The Blue Devils open preseason training Aug. 14 and host South Carolina in their first exhibition Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. The season officially gets underway with the John Rennie Nike Invitational Aug. 30-Sept. 1 against Furman and Cal State Bakersfield, respectively.
