DURHAM, N.C. – Behind an RBI triple from rookie Deja Davis in the bottom of the sixth, the Duke Blue Devils (21-22) picked up a 3-1 victory against the Charlotte 49ers (11-27) Wednesday afternoon at the Duke Softball Stadium.

Davis' team-leading fifth triple of the 2019 campaign pushed Marissa Gagliano across home to give Duke its first lead of the day, one they would hold until the end to pick up its second win in as many days.

Peyton St. George (7-4) turned in a commanding performance from the circle, tossing her second complete game of the year and striking out seven in the win.

Wednesday began as a pitchers' duel, with neither side picking up a hit until the fifth, when Charlotte used a base hit, walk and Duke fielding error to take a 1-0 lead. That lead did not last long, as Jameson Kavel and Caroline Jacobsen picked up singles to level the game at 1-1. A sac bunt from Raine Wilson would move Kavel to second, where she would be driven home on Jacobsen's base hit up the middle for her 23^rd RBI of the year.

Gagliano opened the home half of the sixth with a leadoff double, reaching home on the next at-bat thanks to Davis' triple through the left side. Duke added its third and final run in the next plate appearance, as Rachel Abboud reached on a fielding error that scored Davis, making it 3-1. Charlotte would threaten in the seventh with a single and double with two outs to put runners on second and third, but St. George induced a fly out to center to wrap up the victory.

Duke heads back on the road this weekend, traveling to New York for a three-game series against the Syracuse Orange. All three contests will be featured on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.

The Blue Devils are now 1-1 against the 49ers and 1-0 in Charlotte.
Wednesday's win is just the third this year when Duke has four or fewer hits.
Duke is now 15-3 this season when leading after six innings of play.
The Blue Devils held Charlotte to one run on the day, improving to 6-1 this season when doing so.
With her second triple in as many days, Deja Davis now leads the team and is tied for second in the ACC with five this season.
