Giles-Harris Named to Team of the Week
Junior close defenseman JT Giles-Harris played shutdown defense against Denver's top attackman Ethan Walker Saturday to help lead the Blue Devils to the thrilling 10-9 victory over the No. 5 Pioneers. Walker, coming off of a 70-point season in 2018, was held scoreless and to just one shot with Giles-Harris drawing the assignment of stopping him. Walker had six goals and two assists on seven shots in last year's game, which Duke also won 15-12.
Moving Up and Challenges Await
After falling to No. 8 in the coaches' rankings after the loss to High Point, the Blue Devils have inched up three spots to No. 5 with the victory over then fifth-ranked Denver. Duke is tabbed fifth in both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse poll and 12th by Lacrosse Magazine.
The Blue Devils have upcoming games in the next month against Penn and Richmond squads receiving votes, No. 1 Loyola and No. 9 Towson.

Robertson Extends Point and Goal Streak and Nears 100
Sophomore Joe Robertson extended his point and goal scoring streak to 15 games this past weekend with four goals and an assist in the win over No. 5 Denver. Robertson scored the first three and assisted on the fourth in the final quarter to put the Blue Devils ahead of the Pioneers, 8-7.
The Charlottesville native has scored in every game dating back to March 24, 2018. His 15-game goal streak is tied for ninth among all Division I players. He has been held without a point just once in his career and has 50 points in that stretch. His 17 points this season push him to 77 for his career, 23 shy of the century mark. At his current pace of 4.25 points per game this season he will reach the benchmark in six more games or the 30th of his career. Justin Guterding is the fastest Blue Devil to 100, doing so in 25 games.
Quite a Time for your First
Rookie midfielder Garrett Leadmon picked quite a time to get his first career goal. With Duke all square with Denver in the fourth quarter, Leadmon came out of the substitution box and ran straight to the crease where Joe Robertson found him. The DeMatha Catholic product did well to catch a tough pass and throw it in the goal for the 8-7 advantage – Duke's first since it was 1-0. He is the lone Blue Devil rookie to have a goal this season.
99 Answers the Call
Rookie faceoff specialist Jordan Ginder, with Brian Smyth struggling a bit at the X, came off the bench to help spark Duke's comeback victory. Ginder won 8-of-15 overall and went 4-of-7 in the fourth quarter, including winning three straight as Duke went ahead 9-7. He picked up five of the ground balls on the eight wins.
Smyth Scraps Duke to Victory
While Saturday wasn't his best day, Brian Smyth came up big for the Blue Devils when needed. After having won just one faceoff over the course of the game, the junior faceoff specialist garnered the biggest win of the afternoon with Duke all even 9-9 with 18 seconds left.
After Denver tied the score with time waning in regulation, Duke was looking to make the faceoff a scrap and Smyth did just that. Neither Smyth or Denver's Brett Boos won the ball cleanly and Smyth did a perfect job of knocking the ball loose to allow Cade Van Raaphorst to pick up the ground ball and start what proved to be the difference-making play. Smyth also came away with the game's final faceoff, allowing Van Raaphorst to pick up the ground ball again to seal the victory.
Home Sweet Home
The Blue Devils welcome Penn to Durham Saturday for a 10th meeting with the Quakers. Penn leads the series 5-4-0 overall, including last year's 10-9 victory at Franklin Field. Since starting to play the Quakers on a near annual basis in 2018 the teams have traded home wins. Duke has won all three games in Durham – 2010, 2012, 2014 – and Penn is 3-0 at Franklin Field – 2011, 2013, 2018. Duke's three victories have come by and average of four goals, while the losses have been by 3.33 goals per game.
