DURHAM, N.C.—With the men's soccer awards season in full swing, Duke's
Daniele Proch continues to garner recognition. This most recent honor is for his excellence in the classroom as the senior forward garnered Division I Men's Soccer CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I First Team recognition.
Proch is the first Blue Devil to garner first-team recognition since Andrew Wenger and
Christopher Tweed-Kent in 2011. It is just the fifth time a Duke player has been voted to the first team in program history, while he is the third Blue Devil to capture consecutive honors after being a third-team choice a year ago.
A history major, Proch carries a 3.75 grade point average and will graduate a semester early in December. The Riva Del Garda, Italy native is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member and has been a stellar member of the Duke community since transferring from Catawba College in 2017.
Proch, a first team All-ACC pick for the second consecutive season, was the Blue Devils' undisputed leader on the field in 2019. He led the team with 12 goals and five assists for 29 points, making up 41 percent of the team's 29 goals and 33 percent of Duke's 87 points on the year.
Consistently drawing a crowd of defenders, Proch currently ranks third in the league in goals per game (0.67) and points per game (1.61). He scored multiple goals in three games this season and had a hand in 17 of the 29 scores overall.
He tallied four goals in a pair of wins over Harvard and Princeton to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week recognition in September and was listed 21st on Top Drawer Soccer's midseason upperclassmen top 100 list.
For his Duke career, Proch played in 58 games with 55 starts. He finished his Blue Devil career with 28 goals and 11 assists for 67 points. He earned 2018 All-America honors and was a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Proch was a crucial member of Duke's recent turnaround as he helped the Blue Devils to consecutive No. 6 seeds in the NCAA Tournament in 2017 and 2018. In his three seasons, Duke went 31-20-7 and advanced to the NCAA postseason twice.
