DURHAM, N.C. – Following another impressive season, head coach
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to now welcome the 2020 recruiting class. Left-handed pitcher and outfielder
Evan Carter is a part of the talented group set to arrive in Durham next fall.
"Evan Carter a left-handed hitting outfielder out of Elizabethton in Tennessee," said Pollard. "He's a really athletic kid, and a really good runner for his size. He's a big guy, 6'4, 210, but he really utilizes speed in his game. I think he's really starting to grow into some power and has also been an upper 80s guy on the mound."
A four-year letterwinner at Elizabethton High School, Carter comes to Durham as a native of Johnson City, Tenn. Carter enjoyed an impressive junior campaign at EHS, sporting a 10-2 record on the mound along with a 1.34 ERA, while notching six complete games. He closed out the 2019 season being named the All-Conference Pitcher of the Year, while also being selected as the Super 22 Player of the Year and receiving First Team All-State honors. The talented right-hander is a three-time All-Conference honoree.
A two-sport athlete, Carter also competed in football at Elizabethton, lettering his freshman season as a safety and a wide receiver. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and has served as part of the Student Government Association for all four years of his high school career. Carter is also involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves as a member of the Mountain Club.
Carter is regarded as a top-500 national prospect according to Perfect Game, being listed as the No. 90 outfielder in the country. Additionally, the organization lists Boucher as the 12
th-ranked prospect in the state of Tennessee and the third-best outfielder in the state.
Carter is a part of Duke's 12-member 2020 recruiting class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on all 12 of the newest Blue Devils in the coming weeks.
