Final Results (Battle at the Citadel)
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Duke wrestling kicked off its 2019-20 season Sunday when it competed at the Battle at the Citadel.

Redshirt freshman
Mason Eaglin finished Duke's best wrestler as he took home first place in the 174-pound division. He defeated Stanford's Foster Karmon in the finals by a 5-1 decision.

Wade Unger fell in the 149 quarterfinals but not before he recorded a fall (8-0) in 2:41 over Old Dominion's Joey Caprella to advance to that round.

In their first collegiate meet,
Drake Doolittle and
Kai Blake placed sixth at 125 and 184 pounds, respectively. Both were wrestling unattached.

Also competing in their first college tournament was
Vincent Baker,
Brandon LaRue,
Bryson Neace,
Jonah Niesenbaum, and
Patrick Rowland.
Two states away,
Josh Finesilver and
Kaden Russell were wrestling at the Southeast Open (formally the Hokie Open). Finesilver took home third in the 149 division after recording a technical fall (16-0) win in 3:56 over West Virginia's Kyler Rea and a 9-2 decision victory over Virginia Tech's Caden Darber.

Russell worked his way into the 197 finals bout after earning a 22-4 technical fall win over King University's Elijah Seay, a 3-2 fall win over Virginia Tech's Cody Howard and a 5-4 decision victory over UT-Chattanooga's Rodney Jones. He fell in the finals to West Virginia's Noah Adams by medical forfeit, 6-3, at 1:36.
Duke will head to nearby Boone, N.C., on Nov. 9 for the Mountaineer Invitational.
