DURHAM, N.C.—After a successful Major League Soccer season with the Portland Timbers, former Blue Devil Jeremy Ebobisse has been called into the U.S. Men's Soccer National Team for a pre-camp in Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 2-9. Ebobisse is among 20 players selected by head coach Gregg Berhalter.
A native of Bethesda, Md., Ebobisse has earned one cap for the USMNT, starting and playing 66 minutes in a 3-0 win against Panama Jan. 28, 2019. He was a member of the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team that won the 2017 Concacaf U-20 Championship, which in turn booked a qualifying spot for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic. Ebobisse tallied two goals in three appearances (1 start) for the United States in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, including scoring in a 2-1 loss to Venezuela in the quarterfinals on June 4, 2017.
At Duke, he was a two-year starter at striker and played in 38 games with 30 starts. He finished his collegiate career with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points and was taken fourth overall by the Portland Timbers in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft
In his third season with the Timbers, Ebobisse finished tied for first on the team with 11 goals and was the only player on the roster to appear in all 34 league games in 2019. He set career-highs in appearances (34), starts (25), minutes played (2,310) and goals scored (11) during the regular season campaign. Across all competitions, Ebobisse registered 12 goals and two assists across 39 appearances and has made 53 consecutive appearances for the Timbers dating back to Sept. 8, 2018.
The pre-camp comes as preparation for the conclusion of the Concacaf Nations League Group A play. With the pre-camp falling outside the FIFA international window, the European-based players that will be part of the USMNT roster will arrive in Orlando beginning Nov. 10, when the formal camp opens. That list will be revealed Nov. 6 on ussoccer.com.
Facing must-win situations against Canada and Cuba in order to have a chance to advance to the knockout round, the U.S. will look for payback against the Canadians on Nov. 15 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando (7 p.m. ET; ESPN2, UniMas, TUDN). Four days later, the USA meets Cuba in George Town, Cayman Islands. Kickoff at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on FS1, UniMas and TUDN.
