Ebobisse and the Timbers Clinch Playoffs on Decision Day
Needing a win or a draw to clinch a playoff spot, former Duke forward Jeremy Ebobisse and the Portland Timbers did not disappoint in a 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes Sunday afternoon on ESPN. Ebobisse played 81 minutes for the Timbers, coming off after the third goal was scored.
Portland will take on Real Salt Lake Oct. 19 at 10 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast on ESPNews. The winner advances to play either Seattle or Dallas.
"I think the guys responded really well today," said Ebobisse. "We wanted to have a lot of energy and we wanted to make sure we took advantage of some of the spaces we could open up for each other, which would ultimately lead to more chances on goal. I think throughout the game there were phases where it was excellent. We had one guy running out of the pocket, one guy running in and then even a third guy getting involved and it was pulling San Jose all over the place."
Ebobisse is the top scorer for the Timbers with 11 tallies in his 34 games. He is fourth on the team in minutes played and played in the most games of any player. He most recently recorded a brace in a crucial 2-2 draw with the Revolution September 25.
