DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team fell to Notre Dame 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-27, 18-25) Sunday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Notre Dame featured four athletes with double-digit kills as Charley Niego had a team-high 16 with 14 kills for a double-double.
For the Blue Devils, junior
Payton Schwantz paced the offense and defense with 15 kills and 15 digs while sophomore
Ade Owokoniran added 11 kills. Defensively, libero
Mackenzie Cole added 15 digs and middle blockers
Lily Cooper and
Lizzie Fleming had four blocks each.
Notre Dame came out in the first set and hit 17 kills and were limited to just a .044 hitting percentage in the second frame. Duke hit .263 in the second with 14 kills and just four errors to tie the match up at 1-1.
The Blue Devils led the majority of the third set and held a 24-22 advantage before three kills from Niego helped the Irish take their second point of the match before they went on to hit .312 in the final frame with 12 kills and just two errors.
Duke will hit the road to take on Clemson and Georgia Tech.
