- While the games have been nailbiters in recent years, they also have been high scoring affairs with an average of nearly four goals per game. Three of the past five have resulted in a combined five tallies and the average goals scored in the series since 2008 is 3.4 goals.
- For the first time in recent history, Notre Dame enters the matchup with the Blue Devils unranked. Prior to Friday's game the Irish's lowest ranking at the time of the meeting was 16th. Duke is 28-18-12 against unranked foes when itself is in the top 25.
