Duke SMR Ranks Seventh in the World for 2018

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke 2018 sprint medley relay team's record breaking performance at the Penn Relays a season ago, was recorded as the seventh fastest time in the world in 2018, which was announced by Track and Field News on the 2018 World Men's Lists in the latest edition of the eTrack Newsletter.
The Blue Devil's sprint medley relay record was the oldest Duke relay record still standing, having been set in 1971 by a foursome that included Jon Krassny, Mike Murphy, Bob Wheeler and current assistant sports performance coach Jeff Howser. The quartet of Jacob Sobota, Miles Mingo, Steven Solomon and Matt Wisner beat the previous record of 3:22.10 by nearly six seconds, crossing the finish line in 3:16.52 to shatter the 47-year-old record.
The fourth-place finish by the Blue Devils in the Sprint Medley Relay Championship of America Invitational marked the highest finish in a Championship of America race for the Duke men since winning the 4xmile race in 1972. The Duke men used an impressive final two legs from Solomon and Wisner to secure the top five finish, with Solomon covering the 400m with a split time of 44.8, and Wisner following with an 800m split time of 1:48.4.
The Blue Devils open the 2019 indoor season next weekend, traveling down the road to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the Carolina Cup on Jan. 12.
