Georgia Tech Claims Series Over Duke

ATLANTA – No. 10 Duke was unable to slow the Georgia Tech offense as the Yellow Jackets captured the series with a 20-7 victory Friday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Duke (38-14, 17-11 ACC) led 3-0 early before Georgia Tech (30-25, 14-15 ACC) took the lead with a five-run third then exploded for 12 runs in the fifth. The Yellow Jackets' run total was the most allowed by the Blue Devils since Duke surrendered 21 at Georgia Tech April 3, 2010.
Chris Proctor had an RBI single in each of the first two frames before Jack Labosky added an RBI base knock in the third to give Duke an early 3-0 lead.
But it was all Yellow Jackets over the middle innings. In the third, Kyle McCann punched a two-run single through the middle before Colin Hall lifted a three-run homer to give Georgia Tech the lead. After a Griffin Conine RBI single made it a one-run ballgame, Georgia Tech sent 16 batters to the plate in the fifth to blow the game open.
Duke's Ryan Day (5-3) took the loss, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits over 4.1 innings. Georgia Tech's Connor Thomas (7-3) earned the win, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings.
The Blue Devils and the Yellow Jackets conclude the regular season at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 19 on ACC Network Extra.
