DURHAM, N.C.—Duke redshirt senior Mitch Finesilver was named the ACC Co-Wrestler of the Week following his championship performance at the Hokie Open. He shares this week's honor with Hayden Hidlay of NC State and is the second time in his career he has been selected for the accolade.
Finesilver, ranked eighth nationally at 149 pounds, opened his final season as a Blue Devil with winning performances. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native won the title at the Hokie Open Sunday after competing in the NWCA All-Star Classic exhibition match in Denver the Friday prior.
En route to the top spot on the podium, the second consecutive at the Hokie Open, Finesilver defeated a pair of top 20 foes, including No. 14 Ryan Blees of Virginia Tech in the championship bout. He also edged No. 17 Austin O'Connor of UNC 3-2 in the semifinals.
A year after wrestling at 157 pounds, Finesilver returns to his 149-pound division this season. He is a three-time NCAA qualifier and currently owns 65 career victories.
The Blue Devils return to competition Nov. 18 at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia.
