DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Pascual Di Tella was selected as the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance at the ACC Fencing Championships over the weekend.
Duke closed out the final day of the 2017 ACC Fencing Championships Sunday with Di Tella claiming the men's saber title. It marks the first time a Blue Devil male has garnered an ACC title since fencing returned as a league sponsored sport three years ago.
Di Tella entered the semifinals as the No. 1 seed and battled teammate and No. 4 seed Agoston Walter, with Di Tella gaining the 15-7 win to advance to the championship bout. The product of Vicente Lopez, Buenos Aires, Argentina then dominated in the final bout to defeat No. 2 seed and defending champion Jonah Shainberg of Notre Dame, 15-6.
Di Tella and select Blue Devil fencers will return to competition Saturday, March 11 for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional meet in Easton, Pa.
