FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Duke men's and women's track & field team will travel separately for the second week in a row to compete in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., Feb. 10-11.
The Blue Devils will compete against 22 ranked collegiate teams at the Tyson Invitational, including No. 1 Florida (men), No. 2 Arkansas (women), No. 3 LSU (men), No. 4 Southern California (women), No. 5 Arkansas (men) and No. 5 Florida (women).
Duke will also face the No. 4 Virginia men and No. 18 Virginia Tech men at the Liberty Invitational.
Here's a closer look at the Duke student-athletes that headline the weekend in Arkansas and Virginia:
Jumps/Pole Vault
· Pole Vault (Tyson): Duke will field two of the top ACC women's pole vaulters in junior Madison Heath and freshman Laura Marty. Heath continues to hold the top spot in the ACC and is seventh nationally after posting a mark of 14-0.00 (4.27) while Marty is tied for third in the conference after clearing 12-11.50 (3.95). Heath owns the second-best clearance on Duke's all-time list, followed by Marty tied for sixth.
· Pole Vault (Liberty): Chesney Ward and Nati Sheppard will represent Duke in Virginia in women's pole vault and are currently tied for third and tied for fifth, respectively, in the ACC. Ward posted a clearance of 13-1.50 (4.00) to garner the fifth-best mark in Duke history while Sheppard is tied for sixth with teammate Marty on the all-time records list with 12-11.50 (3.95). On the men's side, senior Connor Hall continues his stellar fourth year tied for eighth in the ACC after notching 16-2.75 (4.95) at the Bob Pollock Invitational. Hall currently holds the second-best clearance in Duke history with 17-1.00 (5.21).
· Long Jump (Tyson): Sophomore Sydnei Murphy continues to excel on and off the track and will represent Duke in the long jump this weekend. Murphy posted the second-best jump in school history with a leap of 20-3.00 (6.17), the fourth-best leap in the ACC.
· High Jump (Liberty): Junior Colt Sessions cleared 6-9.75 (2.08) last weekend at the Armory Track Invite and currently ranks seventh in the ACC. For the women, Cassie Martin is No. 10 in the conference after posting a jump of 5-6.50 (1.69) at the Hokie Invite.
Sprints
· 60m dash: In her first collegiate race of the indoor season, Murphy set the school record in a time of 7.49 and ranks 11th in the conference.
· 400m: Junior Maddy Price is currently tied for eighth in the ACC after clocking in at 54.79 at the Bob Pollock Invitational earlier in the season.
