DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball program is excited to announce the signing of five high school seniors who will join the program in the fall of 2016.
The Class of 2020 includes rightside hitter Samantha Amos, setter Cindy Marina (Temecula, Calif.), setter/defensive specialist Sarah Nelson (Los Gatos, Calif.), outside hitter Natalie Schilling (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and outside hitter Jamie Stivers (Coppell, Texas).
“We're excited to welcome this incoming class who all have worked hard in the classroom and on the court in preparation for their opportunity at Duke,” said head coach Jolene Nagel. “They have high aspirations, quality experience on the court and solid work ethics. These qualities will enhance and blend well with current upperclassmen, who have high ambitions as well and are currently training with a purpose every day.”

Nagel on Amos: “Samie is an athletic lefty who penetrates really well on the block. She has the ability to hit from different areas of the court, which will help open up our offense. Samie has always played up on an older team in her club which has allowed for her to continually be challenged in her development.”

Nagel on Marina: “Cindy is an athletic setter who is a confident and calming leader on the court for her team. She is quick to the ball, has fluid movement and possesses excellent body control. She has had top-level training, owns a quick release and makes solid decisions. Her set location allows her hitters to get solid swings.”

Nagel on Nelson: “Sarah has been a three-sport athlete through high school, which is rare to see these days and is a welcome addition to our team. She is an excellent athlete who can set but also play defense and trains at beach volleyball as well. As she focuses on volleyball at Duke we look for her game to progress quickly.”
