DURHAM, N.C.—Duke's top scoring duo of Jeremy Ebobisse and Zach Mathers recently were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region teams. Ebobisse garnered second-team honors, while Mathers picked up third-team recognition.
These are the first all-region honors for both Ebobisse and Mathers and marks the 24th straight season a Blue Devil has been named to an all-region squad.
Ebobisse, an All-ACC third team pick, had a strong sophomore campaign with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. He tallied the Blue Devils' tying goal in a 2-2 draw with fifth-ranked Virginia to garner his first career ACC weekly award.
The Maryland native got off to a fast start to the year, scoring four goals in the first five games. After a scoring drought in the middle portion of Duke's schedule, Ebobisse resumed his scoring ways late in the season with two goals in his final four contests. Ebobisse's 18 points in 2015 are 11 more than he scored as a freshman.
An All-ACC first team pick, Mathers paced the Blue Devils on offense with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points. The Texas native moved into an attacking role as a senior after serving as Duke's utility man the previous three seasons.
He had a career game in the 6-2 victory over NC State, scoring three goals and an assist for the Blue Devils to garner ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The hat trick was the first by a Blue Devil since Andrew Wenger had three in the 5-2 victory over the Wolfpack in 2011. The senior captain finished with seven points on the night, assisting on the Blue Devils' fourth goal, to match Wenger's output against the Wolfpack four years ago.
For his career, Mathers has started 69 of his 71 games played and tallied 14 goals and 18 assists for 46 points.
The Blue Devils finished the year 10-7-2 overall and lost a hard-fought 2-1 battle to Louisville in the ACC Championship First Round.
