DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women's cross country team returns to competition Saturday, Oct. 17, making the trip to Louisville, Ky., for the 36th annual NCAA Division I Pre-Nationals Invitational. The women's six-kilometer seeded race is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. on the E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park course.
The field of competitors includes some of the top teams in the country, with eight nationally ranked squads set to compete - No. 2 Colorado, No. 4 Oregon, No. 5 Michigan, No. 7 Georgetown, No. 9 Stanford, No. 26 Villanova, No. 27 Texas and No. 29 Cornell.
Junior Madison Granger looks to continue her strong season after serving as Duke's top finisher in each of her last two contests. The Belchertown, Mass., native helped guide Duke to a second-place finish at the adidas XC Challenge Sept. 18 and followed the performance with a 13th-place showing at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet Oct. 3.
The senior duo of Anima Banks and Olivia Anderson also looks to infuse experience into a relatively young Duke squad. Banks has remained consistent throughout the year, placing third for Duke in consecutive meets at the adidas XC Challenge and the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet. Anderson has positioned herself among Duke's top five finishers in all three of her appearances in 2015, including a third-place effort at the Duke Alumni Meet, a 14th-place showing at the adidas XC Challenge and a 74th-place performance at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet.
A majority of the Blue Devil squad is comprised of freshmen, with Kim Hallowes, Liz Lansing, Gabrielle Richichi and Sheridan Wilbur each prepared for Saturday's meet. Wilbur served as Duke's second finisher in back-to-back meets, placing sixth at the adidas XC Challenge and 30th at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet. Hallowes has also contributed for Duke this season, placing among the Blue Devils' top seven at the adidas XC Challenge and the Princeton Inter-Regional meet. The Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, native clocked a five-kilometer time of 18:02.0 en route to an 18th-place finish at the adidas XC Challenge, before completing her first collegiate six-kilometer race at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet. Lansing is set to compete in her second career college meet after opening the season at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet, while Richichi is scheduled to compete for the fourth time in her college career.
