DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke fencing team hosts its annual home meet this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9, in Card Gym located next to Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Duke men open the competition Saturday at 8 a.m., while the women follow Sunday at 8 a.m.
The annual fencing meet is one of the top collegiate fencing events in the nation. Duke head coach Alex Beguinet and his fencers transform Card Gym into a fencing mecca that is annually lauded as one of the most nation's well-run fencing meets. This year's event welcomes men's and women's teams from Air Force, Brandeis, MIT and North Carolina, as well as the men's team from Johns Hopkins and the women's team from Temple.
Fencing runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. There is no charge for admission, and free parking is available in the Whitford Drive parking lot.
The Duke men enter the meet with a 15-5 record following an 8-1 showing this past weekend at the Northwestern Duals where they upset No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 10 Stanford. The Duke women, meanwhile, boast a 13-8 mark after going 8-4 at Northwestern in a performance that included a 10-2 showing from the foils and a 29-7 outing from junior captain Sarah Collins.
The Duke Home Meet has annually brought out the best in the Blue Devils, as the men have home meet wins over the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country over the past four events. The women, meanwhile, have brought home two saber cups and two epee cups in recent years as the meet's top winners at each weapon.
