DURHAM, N.C. – A week after signing his first professional soccer contract with the New York Red Bulls, Duke midfielder Sean Davis continues to collect awards for his performance on the field as a Blue Devil with second team NSCAA Scholar All-America recognition.
Davis is one of three representatives from the Atlantic Coast Conference with Notre Dame garnering two spots. He is the eighth Blue Devil to earn the recognition and the first to do so since James Belshaw grabbed the award in 2011 and 2012.
Davis recently signed a contract as a homegrown player with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. The 2014 ACC Midfielder of the Year and ACC first team selection, Davis was the engine to Duke's offense throughout his career. The Holmdel, N.J., native finished his senior season leading all ACC players and ranking third nationally with a career-high 10 assists.
Voted the team's Most Valuable Player, Davis completed his senior campaign with 12 points to rank second on the team in scoring. He tallied a career-high three assists in Duke's 8-2 win over Stetson and provided assists in seven games overall for the Blue Devils. For his career, Davis has started 62 of 64 games and scored seven goals and 17 assists for 31 points. He is a three-time all-ACC pick, earning second team honors as a sophomore and junior and was a preseason first team All-America choice in 2014.
Davis is also Duke's Most Valuable Player off the field. A sociology major, he earned his degree in December. He has garnered All-ACC Academic Team in each of his seasons and is a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He recently became the fourth Blue Devil men's soccer player and 34th Duke athlete overall to earn Academic All-America first team honors.
