NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Already a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete, senior middle linebacker David Helton continued his highly successful 2014 campaign Wednesday with a selection as one of nine semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, according to an announcement by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.
The nine student-athletes represent the qualities embodied by the award: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
On the field for Duke this season, Helton tops the ACC with 10.44 tackles per game and paces the Blue Devils with 94 total stops. In his last three games, he has averaged 13.00 hits per contest. The Chattanooga, Tenn., product owns 307 career tackles, good for 15th place on the Duke career chart.

Ballots to select the Lott IMPACT Trophy winner, and finalists, will be sent to more than 400 national voters, a panel that includes former coaches and players, members of the media, past Lott IMPACT Trophy winners and finalists as well as members of the Board of Directors for the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the sponsors of the award.
The four finalists will fly to Newport Beach for a black-tie gala at the Pacific Club on Dec. 14 where the winner will be announced. The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation will make a $25,000 donation to the general scholarship fund of the winner's university and $5,000 to each of the schools of the runner-ups.
