DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke wide receiver Sahmir Hagans has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos to join the NFL organization as an undrafted free agent.
Hagans, a 5-10, 195-pound product of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a Second Team All-ACC selection as a return specialist in 2025. He helped Duke to a program-record 35 wins over four seasons, four bowl game appearances (2022 Military Bowl, 2023 76 Birmingham Bowl, 2024 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and 2025 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl), three bowl victories and Duke's first outright ACC championship since 1962.Â
In 57 career games (40 starts), Hagans caught 152 passes for 1,586 yards (10.43) and 14 TDs. He returned 24 kickoffs for 756 yards (31.50) and two TDs and added five punt returns for 153 yards (30.60) and a score. Hagans amassed 2,495 career all-purpose yards. He carded two or more receptions in 41 contests and four or more catches in 17 games. He recorded a career-high nine receptions for a personal-best tying 139 yards at Miami in 2024. He added a career-high two TDs against Wake Forest in 2022 and Elon in 2025.Â
Hagans secured the longest kickoff return, and scoring play, in Duke bowl history with a 99-yard burst for a score against Ole Miss in the 2024 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. He tallied the eighth-longest punt return for a TD in program history with an 81-yard scamper against Georgia Tech in 2022.Â
On Duke's career bowl charts, he ranks second in career receptions (20) and fifth in all-purpose yards (259). On Duke's career charts, he departed campus ranked tied for second in most games with one or more pass reception (48), fourth in most games with two or more receptions (41), tied for fifth in most seasons with three or more TD receptions (3), tied for fifth in most seasons with five or more touchdown catches (2), 12th in receptions, tied for 12th in touchdown receptions and 17th in receiving yards.
In 2025, Hagans was the recipient of the team's Duke Tough Award, presented annually to the student-athlete who personifies the physical and mental toughness required to be a Blue Devil. He was also named the squad's Special Teams Most Valuable Player. Hagans started all 14 games and caught 43 passes for 508 yards (11.81) and six TDs. He added 14 kickoff returns for 467 yards (33.36). Within the ACC, Hagans ranked tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns, 29th in receptions and 34th in receiving yards. He led the league in kickoff return yards and ranked fourth in kickoff returns.Â
During the 2024 campaign, Hagans saw action in all 13 games (11 starts) and received the K.D. Kennedy Iron Devil Award as the Blue Devil who demonstrated the most heart, durability and toughness throughout the year. He registered 47 receptions for 413 yards (8.79) and three scores.Â
As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, Hagans appeared in all 13 games (nine starts), registering 30 receptions for 260 yards (8.67). His redshirt freshman season in 2022, Hagans experienced action in all 13 games (six starts) and tallied 31 receptions for 400 yards (12.90) with a team-high five TDs. His true freshman season had Hagans appear in four games with a catch for five yards.Â
Hagans graduated from Duke in May 2025 with a degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. Â
