TERRA HAUTE, Ind. – The Duke men's cross country team competed in the Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terra Haute, Ind., Saturday, placing 41st overall. The La Vern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course served as the venue for the eight-kilometer race.
No. 1 Colorado won the event with a team score of 35 points, while No. 2 Oregon placed second with 91 points and Georgetown finished third with 148 points.
For the third time this season, junior Blake Udland paced Duke, acting as the Blue Devil's top finisher after placing 142nd overall with an 8K time of 25:44.4. Senior Brian Schoepfer, competing at the Pre-Nationals Invitational for the third consecutive year, placed 210th with a time of 26:13.1. Junior Henry Farley saw a 220th-place finish after clocking a time of 26:17.9.
Freshman Josiah Hanko and junior William Rooney rounded out Duke's scoring five, placing 229th and 237th, respectively. Hanko stopped the clock with a time of 26:22.0, while Rooney finished five seconds later in a time of 26:27.0.
Freshman Matt Luppino and sophomore Daniel Moore, both competing at the Pre-Nationals Invitational for the first time in their respective careers, placed 252nd and 291st. Luppino recorded a time of 26:34.0 and Moore posted a time of 27:20.1.
Sophomores Brian Benesch and Weston Carvalho also competed in the Open Race in Terre Haute, placing 49th and 82nd, respectively. Fairleigh ran a time of 27:07.2 in his second meet of the season, while Hague clocked a time of 28:00.02.
Following Saturday's competition, the Blue Devils moved to 15-52 overall this season, including a 2-6 mark against ACC opponents. Duke returns to competition Oct. 31, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., for the ACC Championships.
