DURHAM, N.C. - With the 2012 season one week away, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its predicted order of finish and all-league honors Friday as Duke senior Christiana Gray and junior Ali McCurdy garnered Preseason All-ACC accolades. The Blue Devils were picked to finish fourth in the conference according to the 2012 ACC Volleyball Predicted Order of Finish as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
Of the 18 selections to 2012's preseason all-ACC Team, 11 earned 2011 All-ACC honors, including both Gray and McCurdy. The Duke duo also picked up AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors a season ago as Gray led the league in hitting percentage (.396) and McCurdy broke the school single season digs record (653).
Duke received 92 points in the coaches' poll, behind third-place Clemson (97) by just five points. 2011 ACC champion Florida State grabbed the top spot with 118 points, including nine first-place votes, while North Carolina secured the No. 2 spot with 111 points and three first-place votes. First-place votes were awarded 11 points, second place received 10 points, etc. Coaches were not allowed to include their own team in their predicted order of finish.
The 2012 Blue Devils feature nine returning letterwinners from 2011, a year in which the team posted a 21-9 overall record while finishing third in the ACC with a 15-5 mark. Last season saw Duke advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time overall and an ACC record seventh consecutive season.
