After claiming the top spot in the Southeast Region Monday, the Blue Devil women moved into the USTFCCCA's national rankings for the first time this season Tuesday, coming in at No. 11. The team turned in an impressive performance Friday, placing seventh among an elite field at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. The Blue Devils edged 15 nationally-ranked teams and finished ahead of four Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in Boston College, NC State, North Carolina and Virginia.
The Duke men also made their season debut in the national rankings, earning the No. 18 spot in the latest poll. The Blue Devils are listed among the top 30 teams in the nation for the first time since 2010 following a fifth-place finish Saturday at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Louisville, Ky. Five Duke runners recorded new 8K personal bests in the effort, as the Blue Devils finished in front of four nationally-ranked teams.
The men's and women's teams compete next at the 2012 ACC Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 on the Tech Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.
