PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Ten Duke track and field student-athletes competed Thursday in the 116th running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
The women's distance medley relay had the highest Duke finish on the day, placing fifth overall. The squad, consisting of Esther Vermeer, Cydney Ross, Devotia Moore and Kate Van Buskirk, clocked 11:14.13 for the No. 3 all-time performance in Duke history.
In the championship javelin, Andrea Hopkins placed seventh with a throw of 152-feet, 9-inches, while Amy Matulewicz came in 10th in the college javelin with a mark of 133-feet, 7-inches.
James Kostelnik ran a 14:13.81 in the championship 5,000-meters to finish in ninth. On the women's side, Kristina Krasich placed eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking 10:55.64.
Action continues tomorrow at the Penn Relays as Michael Kotecki and Tony Shirk lead things off for Duke at 10 a.m. in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Michael Barbas will compete in the shot put, starting at 11:15 a.m. Suejin Ahn, Emily Sherrard and Anna Farias-Eisner will join Van Buskirk in the 4x1,500m relay at 1:30 p.m. and Austin Gamble will close out the day in the discus.
