BOSTON, Mass. - Duke junior distance runner Joshua Lund claimed second place Sunday in the men's mile at the IC4A Championships in Boston to close the weekend's events for the Blue Devils.
Lund ran a 4:09.91 in a tactical mile race to claim the first individual All-East honors and highest finish in a major competition of his career after posting a personal best in the preliminaries on Saturday. The Janesville, Wis., native earned All-East recognition as part of the 4x800m relay team in last season outdoor championships.
Junior Michael Kotecki also competed for the Blue Devils Sunday, clearing 1.99m in the men's high jump, however, senior Buzz Moorman was forced to withdraw from the heptathlon due to minor injury.
Several Duke athletes met NCAA provisional standards this season and will learn the championship field Monday, Mar. 8. Currently, the Blue Devil men's distance medley relay is ranked 12th in the country after posting a 9:34.29 Friday at the Alex Wilson Invite in Notre Dame, Ind. In addition, freshman Curtis Beach sits in 15th national after earning 5,579 points and a bronze medal at the ACC Championships earlier this year.
