Sophomore James Kostelnik earned the first All-East honors of his career at the IC4A Championships in Boston. Kostelnik placed fifth in the men's 3000m run, clocking a personal-best 8:14.67, after covering the final 600m in 1:31.
Junior Joshua Lund also competed at the IC4A's on Saturday, recording a personal best in the mile run to advance to the finals tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 7, at 12:55 p.m. Lund turned in a 4:06.13 performance, the third fastest by a Blue Devil this season and the fourth-best time in Duke history and will look to add another All-East honor to his resume in the finals.
Senior Chris Rowland is set to run in the 800m finals on Sunday as well after posting a 1:52.33 in the prelims. The Jacksonville, Fla., native looks to garner the sixth All-East honor of his career on Sunday at 1:10 p.m.
Junior Michael Kotecki is set for the men's high jump at noon, while senior Buzz Moorman will wrap up the heptathlon, beginning at 10 a.m.
At the Virginia Tech Final Qualfier, junior Amy Fryt tied for fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 4.00m, while fellow pole vaulter Tony Shirk took 12th on the men's side, clearing 4.92m.
In addition, Duke closed out the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, with four runners in the women's 800m. Junior Devotia Moore led the way for the Blue Devils with a ninth-place finish in 2:08.81. On the men's side, Cory Nanni ran a 4:07.34 in the mile finals to take 19th place.
The Blue Devils close out the IC4A Championships tomorrow and will learn the field for the 2010 NCAA Championships Monday, Mar. 8.
