Rowing Finishes Fall Season Strong at Rivanna Romp

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke rowing team traveled to Charlottesville, Va. on Sunday, November 14, to compete in the Rivanna Romp. The team medaled in three of the four events they entered.

In the first competition of the varsity 8, Duke's top boat had some course difficulties but hung on to finish fifth in a very aggressive race.

Duke's boat of Caroline Kiritsy, Allison Beattie, Katy Gregor, Grace Cassidy, Lauren Lashmet, Chelsea Sawicki, Elizabeth Howell, Lauren Baumgartner and Shannon Sims picked up a second place finish in the novice 8, competing in the event for the first time this season.

The boat of Emilie Marchetti, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Kathy Smithwick and Breanna Briede also advanced to a second place finish in the 4+, narrowly missing first by three seconds.

In the final competition of the 2X, the Duke's double of Alex Japhet and Katie Burke picked up a third place finish. Duke's B and C boat also finished fourth and fifth respectively.

This weekend's competition marks the end of the fall season for the Duke rowing team. Their season will commence once again in the winter.
