DURHAM, N.C. ? Junior Gerald Henderson was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office after leading the Blue Devils to a pair of league road wins last week.
Henderson, a 6'4” guard from Merion, Pa., averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in the two victories to earn his first career ACC Player of the Week honor. He joins Kyle Singler as the second Duke player to earn Player of the Week recognition this season.
In Duke's 78-67 win at Maryland last Wednesday, Henderson produced 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and a career-high four blocked shots. He followed that performance with another great all-around game at Virginia Tech in a 72-65 victory. He led the team with 21 points, six rebounds and a career-high six assists. He scored 17 points in the first half, the sixth time this season he has scored 15 or more points in a half.
Henderson has now scored in double figures in 21 straight games, the third longest streak in the ACC. He has seven 20-point games this season after scoring 21 on Saturday. In conference games this year, he is averaging 20.1 points per game to rank fourth in the ACC. He leads the team with 16.6 points per game for the season.
Next up for Henderson and the Blue Devils will be the final game of the 2008-09 season in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke will host Florida State at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.
