DURHAM, N.C.?The Duke University men's soccer program recently released the new dates of its four camp sessions to be held in 2009. The Blue Devils will host four different sessions ranging from April to July.
Led by Duke head coach John Kerr, the Blue Devils will hold day and overnight camps during the spring and summer. Complete information and online registration for each session is available at www.dukesoccercamp.com. The sessions each feature renowned coaches from the around the world.
The first session is a spring break day camp running from April 13-17. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 5-12 and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A half-day option also is available and will end at 12 p.m.
A summer day camp is set to be held on June 29-July 3. The session is for boys only between 5-12 years of age. The day camp sessions will feature technical skill work, scrimmages, and camp games among a variety of other activities.
Kerr is joined on staff by current assistant coaches Michael Brady and Bryan Amos among numerous other prestigious coaches from around the world. Duke will hold the first session of its overnight camp on July 5-9 and the second session on July 10-14. The overnight camps are for boys only, ages 13-18.
Included within each overnight session is the highly touted Duke Goalkeeping School. Former goalkeeper for the Trinidad & Tobago national team Michael Maurice developed the innovative and challenging program that has been a hallmark of the Duke Soccer Camp. The camp will be led by Duke's goalkeeping coach Bryan Amos.
Featured again this year is the Top 100 Senior Division which is comprised of the first 100 seniors in each of the sessions. Those selected to participate in a training program designed for advanced players preparing for a college career. The group will benefit from specialized instruction from the staff of college and international coaches as well as exposure to local college coaches who come to observe. Highlights of the program include, specialized training for all positions, soccer specific strength and conditioning, and a recruiting and admissions seminar.
Many of Duke's varsity soccer players started their careers at the Duke Soccer Camp. A prime example is Jason Kreis, a three-time All-America while at Duke and the current head coach of Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer.
