DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University junior Konrad Dudziak was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after three strong performances over the past two weeks. This is Dudziak's first weekly honor and the first for the Blue Devils this season.
Anchoring the 285-pound division for the Blue Devils, Dudziak sports a 24-2 overall record. He most recently competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions and Southern Scuffle, placing in the top three in both. In Reno, Dudziak advanced to the championship match as the No. 3 seed. He defeated second-seeded and No. 9 Scott Steele of Navy for the second time this season in the semifinal match and narrowly lost to top-ranked and Jared Rosholt of Oklahoma State 5-4. The setback was Dudziak's first of the season.
Just over a week later at the Southern Scuffle, Dudziak took home third place honors. He fell to the ninth-ranked wrestler in the quarterfinals, but rebounded in the consolation bracket to earn a spot in the third-place match against seventh-ranked Mitch Monteiro of Cal State Bakersfield. Dudziak cruised to the victory against Monteiro with an 8-4 decision.
Four days later, the native of Bayonne, N.J., pushed his dual match record to 3-0 with a major decision over Jonah Adams of Anderson College. For the season, Dudziak owns three tournament titles, a runner-up, and a third-place finish. He is ranked fifth in the most recent WrestlingReport.com poll and sports a 3-2 mark against ranked opponents.
The Blue Devils kick off ACC wrestling action on Jan. 14 at N.C. State. The dual is set to being at 7:30 p.m., at Reynolds Coliseum.
