No. 9-ranked and No. 2-seeded Duke fell to No. 7-seeded West Virginia, 73-67, on March 22, 2008, at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Duke ends its season with a 28-6 mark while West Virginia improves to 26-10.
Duke vs. West Virginia Series
- Duke leads the all-time series 17-9 that dates back to Jan. 13, 1951, including a 1-1 mark under Coach K and a 1-1 mark in the NCAA Tournament.
- No. 9 Duke defeated No. 17 West Virginia on March 18, 1989, in Greensboro, N.C., in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by a score of 70-63. Duke was the No. 2 seed and West Virginia was the No. 7 seed, just like today's game. Duke was also ranked No. 9 in the AP poll.
