Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus NCAA East Regionals on May 27, 2026

DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke Outdoor Track and Field team will head to its first meet of the season this weekend at the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. Events will run from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Results can be found on www.flashresults.com. It marks the 11th of 19 consecutive weekends with a meet for Duke Track and Field.
Women's Stars To Watch: In the pole vault on Friday afternoon, the Blue Devils will feature freshman Amy Fryt. She reached a height of 12'-3.5” at the indoor ECAC's, which ranks fourth all-time on the Duke indoor records list. She also scored at the indoor ACC's, taking sixth place. Her personal best outdoors in high school was an 11'-8” vault.
Junior Patricia Loughlin will run Friday night in the 5,000m in Winston-Salem. It will be the first time in her career running the 5,000m, and she will look to reach the ECAC standard of 17:26.14. Loughlin has specialized in the 1,500m, 3,000m and 3,000m steeplechase in her previous two seasons.
On Saturday afternoon, sophomore Emily Sherrard will compete in her first collegiate 3,000m. She is a two-time All-East performer and concentrated last year on the distances of 800m and 1,500m outdoors. The ECAC qualifying time for the 3,000m is 10:55.04.
Men's Stars To Watch: Returning as a redshirt freshman for Duke will be John Austin in the javelin. Austin will throw on Friday evening at Wake Forest for the first time in one year, when he qualified for the NCAA Regionals in his first collegiate competition with a 207'-8” heave at the 2007 Wake Forest Open. That mark was good for the second best javelin throw in Duke history. After that performance he injured his elbow and had season-ending surgery to repair it. The NCAA Regional qualifying distance in the javelin is 202'-1.”
Friday night will feature freshman Ryan McDermott in the 3,000m steeplechase. Prior to coming to Duke, McDermott was the Nike outdoor national champion in the 2,000m steeplechase and the USATF Junior national champion in the 3,000m steeplechase. His personal best mark in the 3,000m steeplechase is 9:08.11, the IC4A qualifying time is 9:16.0 and the NCAA Regional qualifying time is 9:07.0.
On Saturday at Noon, sophomore Mike Schallmo will compete in the discus. He scored at the ACC's in 2007 with a fifth-place finish and earned the second-longest toss in school history with a 163'-1” at the 2007 IC4A's, which earned him All-East honors. The IC4A qualifying distance is 154'-2” and the NCAA Regional standard is 169'-7.”
A Look Ahead: The Duke Track and Field team will stay in the state of North Carolina again next weekend as its competes in the Raleigh Relays on March 28 and 29 in Raleigh, N.C.
