No. 10-ranked Duke defeated Michigan 71-56 to claim the 2008 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer Championship on Friday, November 21, 2008, at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. With the win the Blue Devils improve to 5-0 in the 2008-09 season.
Duke vs. Michigan Series
? Duke and Michigan met for the 26th time on Friday in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer finals in Madison Square Garden. The Blue Devils now lead the all-time series 19-7.
? Duke has now won seven straight meetings in the series against Michigan. The last time Duke lost to Michigan was on Dec. 13, 1997, in an 81-73 contest in Ann Arbor, Mich. Duke also had a streak of six straight victories from 1990 to 1994, including a 71-51 victory in the 1992 national championship game on April 6.
? Mike Krzyzewski owns a 13-4 record against the Wolverines, including a 95-67 victory last season in Durham, the first game between the two schools since 2002.
? The Blue Devils now own a 4-0 record in four neutral site meetings with Michigan, including two NCAA Tournament contests. Besides the 1992 national championship, Duke also downed the Wolverines, 91-80, to advance to the 1964 Final Four. The Blue Devils also beat Michigan in overtime, 100-93, in Detroit, Mich. on Dec. 21, 1965.
? Duke is scheduled to play Michigan in Ann Arbor on Dec. 6. The last time the Blue Devils faced a nonconference team twice in the same season was in 2004-05 when they played Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (W, 81-74) and in the NCAA Tournament (L, 78-68).
? The last time Duke faced a nonconference opponent twice in the regular season was in 2000-01 against Temple. Similar to this year when the two games will be 15 days apart, the two meetings in 2000-01 were only eight days apart. The Blue Devils won both games, taking the Preseason NIT Championship, 63-61 on Nov. 24, and the following matchup 93-68 on Dec. 2.
? The Blue Devils have faced Michigan twice in the same season two other times. Duke took both meetings in the 1991-92 season. The two games in the 1963-64 season were split with Michigan winning in the regular season and the Blue Devils winning in the NCAA Tournament.
? Duke now has a 61-23 all-time record against teams currently in the Big Ten Conference. The Blue Devils went 3-0 against the Big Ten last season and have won five straight with the last loss coming in the 2005 NCAA Tournament against Michigan State, 78-68. Duke has a winning record against nine of the 11 schools in the conference with the only losing record against Purdue (1-4), who they will play on Dec. 2 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Duke In Early Season Tournaments
? With a win in the finals of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, the Blue Devils now have a 4-2 record in the tournament. Duke defeated Presbyterian (80-49) in the first round, Georgia Southern (97-54) in the second round and Southern Illinois (83-58) in the semifinals. The Blue Devils lost its two games against Stanford and Connecticut in the tournament in New York to open up the 1999-2000 season.
? Duke is now 51-9 in major midseason tournaments, including the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, Maui Invitational, CBE Classic, Preseason NIT, Great Alaska Shootout and Rainbow Classic. In those six tournaments, the Blue Devils have now claimed 10 championships in 18 tries.
? The Blue Devils have won seven straight games in major midseason tournaments. They went 3-0 to claim the Maui Invitational Championship last season and went 4-0 this year.
Blue Devils In Neutral Site Games
? With a win over Michigan, Duke is now 183-59 in neutral site games under Coach K. Against non-conference teams, Coach K has a 137-40 record in neutral site contests.
? The Blue Devils are 96-21 in neutral settings since 1998. Duke is 177-47 outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium since the 1997-98 season, including neutral and true road games.

? Coach K now has 735 wins as the head coach at Duke, ranking him sixth in NCAA Division I history for victories at one school and second among active coaches (Jim Boeheim, Syracuse ? 771). Krzyzewski is 24 wins shy of Western Kentucky's Ed Diddle for fifth all-time.
? Krzyzewski's 808 victories are the second most by a head coach through 34 years of coaching. Only Dean Smith of North Carolina won more games with 830 victories.
